In organic farming, green canopies and hedges play an important role in supporting natural enemies for pests. They are a key aspect of biological control because the flora provides these insects with food (pollen, nectar and prey) and shelter. This helps to maintain the presence of stable populations of auxiliary fauna, capable of controlling pest insects when their numbers start to increase.
